The essence of this work is towards finding a moment of comfort amongst the disgusting and finding a moment of connection during times of isolation. Causeway Quilt is made with rags collected from both sides of a heavy trafficked causeway, a narrow 2-lane highway section built in the water preceding a bridge. The rags are stained from previous unknown use, used by a medley of unknown people. In this work I try to get close, to touch the disgusting and find comfort under threat of germs and potential infection. I use the stains to then explore metaphorically how to find moments of rest, of ease in seemingly always “disgusting” unjust, perpetually dysfunctional systems.
